-Benefits of using essential oils in your Professional Organizing business teleclass at 8pm EST on 4/14/16
I walked into a client’s home to help organize her office and I stopped dead in my tracks at the front door. What was that intoxicating smell? Lavender? I wasn’t quite sure what it was, and I had never smelled anything like it.
Turns out, this client had her essential oils diffuser going. I had never seen one and was very impressed! I went over to the mist shooting out the top and took a couple deep breaths. I loved how the aromatherapy was relaxing yet stimulating. (Organizers can get nervous, too!) Afterall, we are going into stranger’s homes and especially for the first time you may not exactly know what you are really dealing with.
Long story short, we had the diffuser going for the session and then I thought to myself how much I loved it and knew my clients would enjoy it as well.
And that was that. I got a diffuser with essential oils and starting bringing it with me to client sessions. My only regret is waiting 5 years of being a Professional Organizer to find this tool that compliments my business perfectly. It sets the tone and is a little extra something that makes your business unique.
Not to mention, it helps with the air quality as sometimes when we are organizing areas that haven’t been touched in awhile, in can get very dusty. (For example, diffusing lemon essential oil helps with getting rid of dust mites!) I am very allergic to dust and the diffuser & oils have made a tremendous difference.
I want to show you the ways that I’ve changed my clients and their families lives, in a GREENER way! Our clients want an organized home, but how about healthy, too? If we know a way to improve the quality of their life, then it’s up to us to educate and empower them with the right tools to help their family. There are a million things you can do with essential oils, but I want to show you specifically how I’ve tied them into my Professional Organizing business.
Here’s 1 benefit of using essential oils with Professional Organizing:
Helps relax yourself and the client naturally.
Here’s a 2nd benefit of using essential oils with Professional Organizing:
Helps to purify the air and combat dust mites during sessions.
Here’s a 3rd benefit of using essential oils with Professional Organizing:
You get to help your client declutter their toxic household products and replace with all natural ones that are healthy for the entire family, including pets.
Here’s a 4th benefit of using essential oils with Professional Organizing:
Being an entrepreneur can have its challenges. That might mean that there’s not always consistent income. It is said that the most successful people have 3 streams of income. This is a way to potentially earn extra income with a product that sells itself. Essential oils compliment the organizing industry perfectly. They truly go hand in hand.
My clients will ask me if I can just leave it there because they don’t want me to take it home! Or they will call me after a session hours later or the next day and say it still smelled after I left and they want it because they do feel the difference. I can’t wait until YOU and your clients feel the difference, too!
I am a Young Living Essential Oils Distributor. Anyone that would like to know more about essential oils or wants to sign up with me, I will be your resource.
I hope you’ll join me for my free teleclass on April 14th at 8pm EST to learn all about Professional Organizing & The Essential Oils Connection!
Cupcakes!!!! Who doesn’t love them?? (Fun fact about me – I owned a bakery business for a few months with my fiance when we first met. We bonded over baking! We opened it up under the cottage food law and sold cupcakes, green tea marshmallows, black bean and avocado brownies, chickpea blondies, peppermint pattie fudge and all kinds of goodies at green markets. It was very brief (it was just way too messy and too much inventory!!) and we closed it after a few months. But it was very fun while it lasted!
So why am I bringing up baked goods? Because today, I want to give you an easy tip to help you organize the kitchen. Something we all have laying around are cupcake liners smushed in somewhere with the rest of the baking supplies. But they are fragile and oftentimes gets all bent up before they can even be used. Also, the packaging can be bulky and take up unnecessary room in your storage area.
This is an easy DIY tip that will take you all of 5-minutes. Just gather all your random cupcake liners from wherever they are stashed, and get some clear jars with lids.
Then take the liners out of the packaging, stack them up however they fit and pop them in the jar(s)!
They look so much better this way, they’re organized and protected!

Now it is not only easier to find things, but it’s possible to reach what I need to without a stepladder or a request to my boyfriend.
I feel empowered by this challenge that with the right support and Jaclyn’s extensive knowledge of organizing, that my home will live up to its highest potential. Thanks Jaclyn, for making this a possibility and for brightening up my life.”

These last couple of years I started educating myself on the chemicals that are in our products for both things that go in our bodies and on our bodies. I am continously shocked. I am passionate about not only helping you kick the clutter to the gutter, but I am also very serious about helping you rid your home of toxic chemicals. I want your home to be not only organized, but healthy!
Laundry detergent is something that I see loads of in my clients homes. They are typically loaded with chemicals which are not good for your skin. It is one of the #1 sources of indoor pollution as you are breathing in all of the chemicals in the products being released into the air. You can read more about what’s in your laundry detergent by doing a general google search or reading this article.
Today, I just want to show you an alternative in which you can de-clutter your plastic laundry detergent bottles and fabric softeners and replace them with a tiny box of certified organic soap berries from the brand Eco Nuts.
What are they exactly? According to Mountain Rose Herbs:
“Soap nuts are found in both the eastern and western hemispheres, but are native to India and Nepal. They have recently become a popular environmentally friendly alternative to chemical detergent, and are a gentle option for those with allergies to chemicals in regular detergents. They have traditionally been used as an expectorant, and in Ayurvedic medicine as a treatment for eczema and psoriasis. Soap nuts contain saponin, a natural detergent. The soap nut shell absorbs water and releases the saponins which circulate as a natural surfactant in the wash water, freeing dirt, grime, and oils from clothing.”
They are natural and inexpensive! You never have to buy a big bulky plastic bottle again if you make the switch. One box of these organic soap nuts will last you 100 washes. This is amazing for our environment because on average, you will save 11 bottles a year! Just 1 person does make a difference! Imagine how many plastic bottles we will be saving if lots of people made the switch? It’s huge!
I have been using these for over a year and I love them! They work even on extremely stinky clothes. Tested & approved by me! I put them in with the washer, then again in the dryer.
You can purchase them online or at Bed Bath and Beyond. Don’t forget your coupon!

Storing your makeup is different for everyone. Some like it all out of sight put away somewhere, while others like them on trays or displayed in a visual way. This tip is for people who like to have their makeup stored in sight.
Here’s what you can do. Gather all your makeup in one area.
Then what I do for my clients and myself is separate the makeup between what is used regularly and what we use only once in a while. (you know.. THOSE color eye shadows!)
Also, take this as a chance to throw out and de-clutter all the old items. They expire!
Now you have your 2 piles of de-cluttered makeup. 1 pile for items you use on the regular and 1 pile for stuff that is not used regularly.
Take the items that are only used once in a while are put away somewhere else like in a zipped up pouch or box, and then the everyday items are organized separately.
I am a visual person. And when I found this antique cookie tray, I wasn’t thinking about cookies. I was thinking that would be perfect to organize my makeup! (okay, and maybe cookies, too…) Sometimes it’s really unique to recycle certain items in ways that they are not intended, but that work for you!
What I did was separate my makeup first by taking out my items that are not used regularly and put them somewhere else, then I organized the tiers by category. Bottom tier is lips & cheeks, middle layer is for eyes and top is for beauty tools like tweezers, eyelash curler, nail clippers and mini scissors. You don’t need to worry about making things look perfect, because this is for everyday use and it doesn’t need to be ready for a photo shoot. You just have to be able to find that product when you need it! This is as simple as it gets!
I’ve had this system now for months and it has not changed. When I try a new way of organizing out, if it stays organized for months, then it works!
I just love how everything is separated and organized in their category, and I can just see everything with one glance. It’s spacious enough where I don’t think one person needs any more room than this!
So if you are a visual person, the next time you are browsing the antique stores or a baking store, keep your eyes out for a cookie tray you love to organize your makeup!
<P.S. I am going to be changing over makeup brands to a vegan, cruelty-free company. So if you see brands/products that aren’t that great for you regarding chemicals and such,
I am aware of it and am not going to be using these for much longer.

Scarves, scarves and more scarves! Almost all of my clients have tons of these.
And they hardly get worn! Maybe it’s because they are stored away in drawers, baskets, etc. and can’t be seen. If you are a visual person and love to see all your pretty things out in the open, then this is a good technique for you.
All you need are shower hooks (you can even get a pack of them at the Dollar Store) and hangers. Organize the scarves by whatever makes sense to you, or do it like a rainbow and follow the ROYGBV (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, violet) color scheme.
Now you won’t forget what you have because you’ll be able to see it! Now if you need some ideas on how to wear your scarves here’s one to try, and you can always look on Pinterest for that. Which is where I found this one.

Do you want to get your home organized? I’m running a 15-day home organizing challenge, starting March 15th-30th. Click here for more details and to register.
I hope you enjoyed this easy DIY tip that you can do right away!
One thing that 99.9% of ladies have is makeup. And when you apply your makeup, you need brushes. Now how you store your brushes is completely unique. I want to give you some inspiration on how you can store yours in an aesthetically pleasing and affordable fashion!
Use a mason jar, or any other kind of glass jar (a recycled one from something you ate) and fill it with uncooked rice. You can use any color, or mix colors. Now that I’m thinking about it… black rice would look amazing, and even if you mixed the black and white rice together. Oh yeah, I’m totally going to try that next time I get black rice.
Storing them upright prevents the brush heads from touching each other. Displaying and preserving your brushes correctly in an upright position can help keep their shape.
Example #2: Dried peas or beans
I just think this looks cool. You can mix different types, or just check out the dried bean section and see if there’s something that catches your eye. Or open your pantry and see what’s in there! I was actually in the middle of food prepping and doing all these pictures when I was about to make split pea soup. I had originally only planned on using rice for the makeup brushes in the photo, but I saw the texture of the split peas after I dumped them into my crockpot and thought they would be perfect. So sometimes you just have to improvise – you never know when inspiration will strike you.
If you have a lot of brushes, you might want to divide into two categories: one for eyes and one for face to stay extra organized.
Example #3 Pasta – this is the star pasta: pastina.
After I did the photos for the split peas, I was curious as to what else I had in my kitchen that could also be used. Lo and behold, I found the star pasta and knew that I had to try it. Well, it worked! I think that looks really cool and could see this being a hit with schoolgirls.
**Other things you can use are coffee beans, pebbles, beads, etc.
There’s truly no limit to your imagination with this creative & easy DIY makeup brush holder.

Closet space is precious. We want to maximize every inch to it’s capacity, so that’s why I want to show you this no-brainer which will cost you zero dollars! If you live in a home that has very limited closet space, or room to store clothes, then this idea will be something that you will be able to implement immediately.
Instead of having your hangers next to each other taking up the closet rod space…
Just use a soda can tab to double your hanging space and stack them!
I love this because I try to save money without sacrificing quality when possible. Instead of buying the fancy ones, this works just as well. Plus, having things hung makes it easier to see if you are a visual person. Sometimes when things are in drawers, they are rarely worn because out of sight, out of mind!
I also think it’s a tool that can help you get organized. If getting dressed causes you anxiety, it would be a good idea to pick out your outfit ahead of time and hang them up together. (Dress and cardigan, pants and top, etc.), so there’s no thinking involved when the time comes and you need to grab a quick outfit.
You can feel confident knowing that you have a closet filled with complete outfits and not just a bunch of random pieces that don’t go together. (and avoid the “tornado room” which is when you pull everything out of your closet and drawers trying to find something decent to wear.) This would also be a good opportunity to fill in the gaps in your wardrobe. For example, if you noticed that if you had a (black turtleneck) then you could wear the 3 skirts that you love but never wore for the last year. And possibly some black tights, too. You may have purchased items you loved at the time, and still do, but never wore them because you could never figure out what to wear it with. So they just sit in the closet as basically decorations. Do a closet purge while you’re at it! You can get rid of everything you are never going to wear again, then get the items you do need.
You can even take this a step further and take pictures of each outfit so you can visually see them when you need to get dressed and pick one out that way. Getting dressed would give me a lot of stress when I didn’t have much time to get ready and was rushed. So I picked out my outfit the night before and that truly made me sleep better. I didn’t have to worry about what I was going to wear.
It became my routine and I loved the feeling it gave me because I would always feel good about my outfit and it was all ready for me, hung up all together. I would have my undergarments, shoes, socks, jewelry and accessories ready, too. I would try the outfit on to make sure it was all set (because sometimes you think something will look great, but then you try it on and it was not how you imagined it) so that would set me into panic mode if that happened. So I made sure to avoid that and it was a perfect way for me to start my day because I was looking forward to wearing my outfit that I put effort into. This may seem a little extreme to some people, but for me, it worked like a charm.
My appearance has always been important to me and it doesn’t take millions of dollars to look put together. It just takes effort. For me, I heard these quotes, which inspired me, “When you feel your worst, look your best”, “It doesn’t matter how you feel – get up, get dressed and show up.” And, “90% of it is just showing up.” I had a teacher in 8th grade tell us that it didn’t cost much to get clothing at the secondhand stores and get an iron. You just have to put in the time because your appearance does matter and he didn’t want us to look sloppy and have excuses.
If you love the idea behind the soda can tab, but don’t think you want those in your closet, there is an alternative. You can buy the cascading hooks from The Container Store by clicking the image below:
I hope this inspired you to do some organizing and if you do use any of my tips, or have your own, please share them in the comments section below!

15-Day Home Organizing Challenge: May 2nd- 16th, 2016
- Would you like your home to be organized?
- Do you have clutter that drives you c-c-crazy?
- Do you want to bring guests over but are embarrassed with how your home looks?
- Have you considered hiring a Professional Organizer?
- Are you on a budget?
If you said yes to at least 2 of those questions, then I have a solution for you. My 15-Day Home Organizing Challenge will give you the kick in the pants you need to Kick the Clutter to the Gutter (for less than the cost of 1-hour of having me come over and help you in-person)! Every day for 15-days, I will be giving you an organizing task to do that will take between 30-60 minutes. With short daily bursts, you will see huge results!!
This will make you feel so proud of yourself for FINALLY tackling the clutter you have been procrastinating. There are so many books and Pinterest tips and YouTube videos to watch about organizing, but with all the hyper-stimulation out there, it’s hard to laser-focus and know exactly where to start. That’s why I created this challenge, to give you fifteen guided days to get organized with people just like you; highly motivated, ready for change, just need a plan and support with like-minded people.
- You’ll receive a daily email first thing in the morning explaining what the task of the day is, along with directions and motivation.
- Once registered, you’ll be added to the secret Facebook group just for participants. The daily task will be posted in the group. This is a community for support and accountability for each other. You can post pictures of your before & after work, along with questions you have, or just general comments you have about the process.
- Unlimited support from me via email and the Facebook Group during the duration of the Challenge.
- One 45-minute call with me for support at any time during the Challenge.
Organizing can be difficult to conquer alone. By doing it with a group for a set amount of time, you are committing to yourself that you are going to get organized and Kick the Clutter to the Gutter! The time will fly by and you will feel happier, and more confident in your home once you have it under control.
We’re going to tackle areas all over the home, from the kitchen, to the bathroom, living room, closets, bedroom and more! Hiring a Professional Organizer to come over and do it with (or for you) can be expensive (hundreds or thousands of dollars). This is a way to use a Professional Organizer Virtually for a small percentage of the normal fees. The knowledge you’ll gain from this will stay with you forever, and you can pass the information along to your household, teaching them as well.
The cost of this challenge is less than 1-hour of hands-on organizing. It pays for itself with all the support you’ll be receiving as we go along. Any questions or support you need, I am there for you as your own personal cheerleader and accountability partner.
I am 100% confident this will help you! This is not my first time running a 15-Day Home Organizing Challenge. My previous participants were so successful and couldn’t believe how much they were inspired to organize. The complete makeovers of spaces were unbelievable! With my guidance, and the support of others in a private, safe and non-judgmental group, we are able to help each other Kick the Clutter to the Gutter!!
I’m so excited to help YOU get organized!
Cost: only $97
One of the things I recently started to really want is a makeup table. I have been doing my hair and makeup just standing up in my bathroom for my entire life. But now, after watching countless YouTube tutorials on how to do your hair and makeup (I’m trying to put in more effort this year) some of these looks can take more than a few minutes. I’m feeling inspired to kick it up a notch. My signature look has been just coconut oil for moisturizer, a little concealer, a thin line of black eyeliner, mascara and a pop of blush, completed with a 5-second bun. It takes me literally under 10-minutes to get ready. However, this year one of my goals is to make videos and I do want to experiment with these looks, while being comfortable (i.e. sitting down).
So I searched online for makeup tables but then I found all these ways on Pinterest to make them yourself. Being that my fiancé is a handyman, I showed him the picture of the one I wanted, and he built it for me. It was extremely easy and inexpensive. You can do this yourself, or call Zev Apfelbaum at Spotless Home Services to make you one.
Photo Credit: Tip Top Organizing LLC
Here’s what you need:
- 2 Shelves to the length that you want your table to be (with the brackets and hardware). Make sure to measure the area that it’s going to go before buying shelves.
- A mirror that can hang (with the hardware)
- A chair
- Trays, containers or whatever you want to put your hair and makeup things in.
Photo credit: Tip Top Organizing LLC
Once you have your materials, here’s what you do:
1. When deciding where to put the table, you want to try to be near outlets for your hair dryer and such.
2. When deciding where to put the shelves, make sure you sit down in the chair to make sure your legs can slide under comfortably before installing.
3. Hang up the 2 shelves, leaving a little bit of room in between so you can put your hair and makeup accessories in there in whatever containers you want.
4. Hang your mirror up, making sure it is secured properly.
5. You can put a little basket under the table for the hair dryer, curling iron, straightening iron, etc.
6. Organize your hair and makeup products.
And you are done! These can be very pricey, so this is a good way to save money and get creative.
I hope you enjoyed this tip! I’d love to see your pictures if you make this.
I absolutely love mine!
I hope this inspired you to organize your makeup! Go ahead and post your pictures up on social media with the hashtag #tiptoporganizing and tag me in them! I love to see what you did.
I love helping busy women get organized. If you have an area of your home that you want to de-clutter, I can help in person if you are in the Palm Beach County, Florida. Or, if you just need a plan and are a do-it-yourself kind of person, I offer Virtual Services where I can help anyone in the USA by just using our phones and computers.
I look forward to helping you Kick the Clutter to the Gutter!™
